Calella is a town in the Costa Brava, often included as part of the wider Barcelona area. It is a fun, and busy town which offers a break from the big city with lots of hotels and beautiful beaches. There is a lot on offer in Calella and I have created this Calella travel guide to help you plan your trip there.

Flying in

If you fly into Spain there are two options for airports in Barcelona. There is the Girona Barcelona airport which is on the Calella side of the city, or there is the El Prat airport on the other side of the city. Both are really easy to get to Calella from.

From Girona you are probably cheap enough to get a taxi. That being said there are regular bus lines linking up the towns, airport and Barcelona which offer a cheaper alternative to private transfers. I traveled from Barcelona El Prat and decided to go for the bus, which was to save me around 80 Euros.

The bus was clean, friendly and the driver went out of his way to let us know when we were at our stop, and how exactly to find our hotel from the bus stop.

Where to stay

Calella is a very touristy destination. There are a massive choice of hotels in the town all of which are probably very nice. We picked the HTOP Olympic as my Mum, who I was traveling with, had used the hotel chain before and really liked it. You can get all inclusive here which we did so we could limit our spending on this trip.

Getting around

The town is easily walkable. Everything you need you can walk to, including food, beach, diapers, a tattoo and way more. There is so much to do here that you could spend a week here walking about and save on any transport costs.

You can also take a small tourist train around the town to take in the sights and the village a lot more quickly. There are regular buses to the nearby towns too.

Day trips

There are plenty options for day trips including Barcelona city, Medevil nights and waterparks. You can easily organise any of these through the tour agents around town or the links above will save you money.
