Hotel: Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo

Date: November 2016

Room: Standard

This hotel was in a great location for our business trip. The business meeting was near the airport and this hotel was only a short drive from there, around 10 minutes in the evening traffic. We found the hotel through a secret deals booking so we were glad to see that it was in one of our favorite hotel chains as we actually collect the points for stays there.

It was busy in regards to parking and we struggled to find a space for a while. This is probably due to the proximity to the Zoo.

We found it was in a fantastic location in the city, right beside the Zoo. Literally right beside as they share a drive. It was also an easy drive, or bus ride, right to the city centre. The hotel was clean, and we were checked in really quickly which was fantastic as we were in a hurry. It was also close to the bypass so you could easily skip the city and head somewhere else, like to the quiet countryside only a short drive from here.

The room was small and so things were a bit cramped. The bed, however, was spacious and comfortable and had nice, soft, bedding. I slept very well (might have been the fact there was no baby with us!) It also helped that there was 24-hour room service which tended to our late night hunger.

There were many different types of people in this hotel, lots of families, lots of business-type people and plenty of people just there to see the Zoo and the city. We also found that a lot of locals came in to use the pool.

My favourite part

I loved the last night room service. I also loved the flexibility of the restaurant staff who made an exception to let us in to eat even though they were full. I appreciated this a lot and really enjoy the very generous portions of food.

My least favourite part

We weren’t told (until we arrived) we needed to book a time to use the pool, or that it would be serving swimming lessons to the locals when we did go in. We found it difficult to focus or relax with the amount of noise during or small slot in the pool.
