Restaurant: The Service 1921 Restaurant
Location: Part of the Anantara Resort Chiang Mai
Date: October 2017
The Service 1921 Restaurant is not just a restaurant, it is a whole experience in itself. It used to be the old British Consulate in Chiang Mai. At the time it was a consulate it was not uncommon for people to be served food here – which is where the idea came from. The whole place is themed out to the mex – old passports, pictures, uniforms and more line the walls while the staff are fully dressed in what looks like old British military uniforms.
When you enter you are handed envelopes with the words ‘top secret’ printed on the front. When you open these inside is an impressive menu which makes it hard to pick just one meal. The drinks are themed and you can enjoy some interesting mixes to get you in the mood for wonderful meal.
The staff were very nice and helpful with Travis, offering him a pillow to sit on (he hates high-chairs.) They got him paper and pencils to draw and even helped him go over some of the names of the colours too.
There massive choice of food here was incredible. It was really hard to pick just one meal because everything sounded so delicious and tempting. We got a starter, main and a desert and were incredibly impressed with them all. We really liked that there was a kids menu with more child-friendly options too.
I got a chicken Kung-Po which was really spicy. David also ordered a spicy dish but it was not as spicy as mine. We were asked before it was cooked if we wanted it to be spicy or not so we were not shocked when it was. The puddings were simple yet delicious. The coconut ice-cream was a winner with Travis.
The majority of people who came here were the type who had a bit extra money to spend. Typically they were guests of the Anantara Resort Chiang Mai. We saw other families eating here too which was nice to see.
MY FAVOURITE PART
I loved the theme of this restaurant. It was so cool seeing all the old memorabilia placed around the room. It was amazing seeing the staff in full-themed out dresses and they were so kind. The staff were really helpful and helped to keep Travis happy during our meal.
MY LEAST FAVOURITE PART
It was quite dark in the restaurant which meant some of our footage and pictures were hard to see. It was all part of the theme of the restaurant though so I embraced it!
