Located on the Caribbean coast in Colombia’s north is one of the most unique and breathtaking National Parks in the country – Tayrona Colombia. Tayrona National Park is a nature lover’s paradise that invites visitors to swim in its natural turquoise bays, lie on its white sandy beaches, or explore its natural rainforest. After hearing about this magical place I was instantly intrigued, and after spending a few days there I am a huge advocate for visiting the park!
I fell in love with Tayrona from the minute I stepped onto the paths that wind through the coastal jungle and led to beautiful white sandy beaches. Though my love for Tayrona National Park was instant, it only grew more as I spent time exploring its landscape. Tayrona’s thick green jungle that covers the surrounding mountainside grinds to a halt behind a line of coconut trees that meets the white sand beaches and the turquoise waters of its bays! It is that combination of landscapes that make this place so beautiful and most definitely worth a visit.
Tayrona is filled with many beaches that cater to anyone. Whether you want a secluded spot to unwind and relax or prefer a cold beer and a social atmosphere each beach is only a short walk away. Tayrona even has a nudist beach for those a little more adventurous! All of the beaches at Tayrona are simply stunning. The area is subject to rough Caribbean seas, but the natural bays make swimming possible. There is even one beach called “La Piscina” which literally translates to “the pool” as the waters there are so calm.
One great thing about Tayrona is the fact it is possible to stay overnight! There are various types of accommodation available, from luxury cabins to the simple hammocks. The different accommodations offer restaurants and snack bars for those who want to relax. But for those looking for a bit more of an authentic camping experience, there are places to set up camp with your own gear in the middle of nowhere.
I chose to rent a hammock for my stay and really loved the feeling of being outdoors. With the cool ocean breeze keeping the temperatures cool and the mosquitos away, it is the perfect place to sleep outside. I only stayed for only one night and now somewhat regret not staying longer! The gorgeous landscape and serene atmosphere would make Tayrona a great spot to hang out of for a few days.
The relaxed vibes on its beaches made me never want to leave. You feel so disconnected from the world but that is the best thing. You listen to the waves crashing on the shores or the wind moving through the trees and your problems drift away like a small leaf caught in the wind. I left Tayrona with a clear head, refreshed like I had hit the reset button.
With all of the reasons to love this place, it’s no wonder Tayrona National Park is Colombia’s second most visited national park. I haven’t met any travelers that didn’t find something they loved about Tayrona – it is a must-see destination in Colombia.
