We have said it many times, there are just too many awesome trails in The Scottish Borders. Innerleithen is a gold mine for hikes and nature trails so I decided to set off out and explore yet another of them. Toll Wood Innerleithen is famous for its Games Week raves, but it is also a lovely trail to enjoy with family or to walk the dog.
Finding the trail
To find Toll Wood Innerleithen you need to take the last left off the High Street when you are heading toward Peebles. This is the last left before the COOP. Follow the road right up past the graveyard and take a right just before the black bridge. You have found Toll Wood, yay! You can start following the trail from right there and make your way into the woods.
Easy to follow
The trail is easy to follow, its mainly flat and you can actually take a car up there (as I found out when my brother threw a rave up there.) This makes it a great walk for family but also friendly to dogs who are less able too. If you struggle to walk too far you can drive and park at the entrance to the Toll Wood Innerleithen and take it from there.
It would be difficult to get lost in there since the trail and woods only measure a few metres in width from side to side. On the left is a river and the right is a fence to a field. There are a few paths to follow but they all lead to the same place in the end. I never followed the whole route outside of the forest because I had an appointment but I think the path would just follow the route of the river if you wanted to continue.
What to do
Toll Wood is a great place to walk. If you have a child like mine its a great place to go and explore, pick up leaves and rocks and climb tree stumps. You could bring a picnic and start a fire in the fire pit, roast marshmallows. Its a good place to take pictures and to relax in nature.
The other side of Toll Wood Innerleithen
Toll Wood Innerleithen is well known around town as a rave location. Every year during our festival week there is a big rave thrown here that goes on well into the next day. It happens on the Games Saturday every year. Because of this other people throw raves and parties here throughout the year because it is out of the way enough to be able to play relatively loud music without disturbing too many people. I still have never made it to one of the famous raves but David has – he tore his ankle muscles there.
